License Activation

General information - important

After purchasing a software license or starting a trial period, you will receive a license key per email.

It has the format: <email of license owner>-<end of validity>-<5-15 digits hash>

This license key is used to generate a license file for your computer by activating your license.

Important

nextnano licenses are hardware specific. Virtual machines and similar environments influence the fingerprint as well. You have to perform the license activation on the same computer (and VM setup) where you want to run the nextnano software.

Note

Activation will not influence the validity period of your license. The validity/trial interval starts according to your purchase process. Activation will activate the license on your computer and thereby occupy one license seat.

Hint

Re-activating the license on the same computer will not occupy another license seat, it will only download the existing license file(s) again. For convenience, it can be done as many times as one wants, e.g. when changing the working directory or installing a new instance of the nextnano software.

nextnano tool and license format availability on different operating systems

Not all of the nextnano software tools or license formats are available on every operating system. We are continuously working to expand native support across additional operating systems. Below you can find a short overview of currently available combinations.

In general, two formats of nextnano licenses exist:

  1. license.txt (old licensing system, will be deprecated in the future)

  2. License_<TOOL>.lic (new licensing system)

To obtain a .txt license file, please contact us via nextnano Help Center to request issuing the license.

¹) Currently we do not offer a nextnano.NEGF software version natively compiled for macOS. Alternatively, macOS users can run a nextnano.NEGF version compiled for Windows under Wine, either from terminal or with the GUI nextnanomat.
